To roof or not to roof?
Choosing not to place a roof on your deck or not is also a crucial factor that you should think about. When you treat your porch as a living space, there is a better chance that it will be used more frequently and maybe more usable when a roof is placed on it. During the winter, you need to allow as much light as possible and choose to have a removable roof or one that allows more light as the fall approaches. When our deck builders add a roof to your deck, it can be great protection from the rain, making it even more valuable. You can also lessen the hassle of moving furnishings like chairs and tables when inclement weather comes in.
Decks should be built with a slope that dips away from the house. It will prevent any puddle from forming beneath a building wall which can cause dampness in the wall itself. Water will likely roll right off when a deck has at least a 2% slope. The said percentage is enough to make the surface less risky of standing water. Knowing the level of groundwater rises can also be helpful. When it rises higher than it should be, it may be a good idea to install a foundation. If this is the case, a slab terrace directly on the ground, then it may not be such a great idea for something that lasts.
